Academic Exchange with Universitas Katholik Parahyangan

The Programme on European Studies, Institute of International Studies (EUROS-IIS) Universitas Gadjah Mada invites Mr. Yulius Purwadi Hermawan from Universitas Katholik Parahyangan (Unpar) to give lecture in Department of International Relations UGM. This activity is part of our Academic Exchange program, which serves as a platform to exchange ideas and experiences on European studies teaching, as well as to build closer people-to-people contacts between the members of Indonesian Community for European Studies (ICES).

Unpar was chosen as our partner in this activity because its Department of International Relations is considered as the best among other IR programs in Indonesian private universities. It also has quite established European Studies with the presence of Parahyangan Centre for European Studies (PACES), a research centre for teaching staffs and students who have interest in the European issue. Therefore, having one of Unpar’s teaching staff to give lecture in our Department will be fruitful input for us.

In this opportunity, we are not organising the program as a public lecture or seminar. We invites Mr.Purwadi to teach in “International Relations of Europe” course instead. The lecture was started at 07.30 in the morning. The session’s topic was European Union and Globalization. He briefly elucidated the role of Europe in globalization and made an enlightening discussion with students by asking questions, ‘Can European Union control globalization?’

This activity got a good response from students proven by interactive discussion between lecturer and students during the class. The lecture conducted for 2 hours including an insightful discussion with students. In conclusion, the program was successfully executed and brought great inputs for our programs in the future.
