This year, Europe Day is celebrated boisterously, seen from the full agenda organized by the European Union Delegation in Jakarta last May. A full-month-event called Europe Month was celebrated not only in Jakarta, but also in several cities in Indonesia, including Yogyakarta. As official partner of EU – Public Diplomacy and Outreach (EU – PDO), Programme on European Studies (EUROS) under Institute of International Studies (IIS) UGM collaborated with Pusat Studi Jerman (PUSMAN) UGM created Europe Day 2016 in 30-31 May and 1 June 2016.

There were two main events in Europe Day 2016 in UGM, which was co-funded by European Union. In 30-31 May, we held a two-day-free European Language Trial Courses, taken place in PUSMAN UGM. The European languages that included in the course were German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and French. There were five sessions lasted in two days, with 48 students each enrolled (amount varied between one language and another).  The European language enthusiasts came from various background of age, started from high school students until graduated fellows.

In 1 June, the Scholarship Seminar was held in East Seminar Room of Fisipol UGM. This seminar showcased four popular scholarships that enable Indonesian students to study in European universities. The scholarship providers participated in the seminar were DAAD, LPDP, Erasmus+, and Campus France. There were 200 people participated in this event. The seminar was opened by welcoming speeches from Muhadi Sugiono (as EUROS Coordinator) and Suryo Baskoro (as the Head of PUSMAN UGM).

Seeing the huge public enthusiasm, the organizer of the event hope that this kind of event can boost the spirit of many potential Indonesian students to keep up their effort in reaching their dreams to experience the European education. As explained in the seminar, there are a lot of opportunities open for Indonesian students to go to school to Europe. It is only the matter of willingness and hard work in treading the pathway there.
