The Programme on European Studies (EUROS) was founded in 2012 to accommodate the interest among Department of International Relations (IR) UGM teaching staffs to develop European studies. The program specifically discusses the European Union (EU) as a global actor within the context of IR studies as well as how the EU enhance the discourse of IR theories and vice versa. Currently there are five European-themed courses taught in the Department: European Governance, History of European Diplomacy, International Relations of Europe, Regionalism of the European Union, and Politics and Governance of Russia.

About

During the 2nd Convention of European Studies 2012, there was a signing of Memorandum of Understanding between EU Delegation in Jakarta and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM to deepen cooperation in academic enrichment. The signing paves the way for EUROS to establish broader range of extracurricular activities: research, workshop, seminar, inviting one of European-based scholar our Department annually. These various activities is aimed to enhance a comprehensive understanding on the European Union among Indonesian.

The 2nd Convention of European Studies 2012 also marked the establishment of Indonesian Community for European Studies (ICES, or “Komunitas Indonesia untuk Kajian Eropa – KIKE”), group of Indonesian scholars who has interest in European studies. ICES mainly, but not exclusively, consists of International Relations teaching staffs from Indonesian universities. EUROS committed to support ICES to be one of the established epistemic community in the region.
